Geico To Sign Deal To Sponsor Supercross, Motocross Bikes
By Tripp Mickle, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
Geico Insurance is expected to announce today that it will title the Factory Connections supercross and motocross teams. The deal marks the insurance company's first foray into supercross and motocross. Sources valued the one-year, 14 race deal in the high six figures. It gives Geico title sponsorship of five bikes, including Supercross' second-ranked racer Kevin Windham and Supercross Lites leader Trey Canard. The team will be known as Geico Powersports Honda and will debut this weekend on special gold and black bikes at the last supercross race of the season in Las Vegas. Three hours of the race will be broadcast live on Speed Channel. Progressive is the official insurer of supercross. Geico has an option to extend the deal after the summer motocross season. Torco, the team's former title sponsor, will move into an associate sponsor position. The agreement was handled by Connexions Sports and Entertainment, a Radiate Group agency.
