Niskanen Auctioning His Car To Raise
Money For Family Of Late Stars Employee
Stars D MATT NISKANEN has put up for auction his car in "hopes of raising money for the family of" late Stars Dir of Ticket Operations MATT MCKEE, who died in January. The car is painted "in NASCAR fashion" with Stars colors, logos and Niskanen's No. 5 on the doors. The auction is accessible on www.dallasstars.com (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/30).

HONORS & AWARDS: Former East Valley Tribune sports writer BOB MORAN, who died last month at the age of 55, was inducted as the fifth member of the Arizona Sports Writer's HOF on Monday (EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE, 4/29)....Pacers co-Owner HERB SIMON on June 29 will be honored with the Indiana Pathfinder Award at the Pathfinder Awards Banquet at Conseco Fieldhouse (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 4/30)....The Univ. of Michigan (UM) has named SI's RICHARD DEITSCH as one of 12 journalists to its '08-09 Knight-Wallace Fellows program. Deitsch's project is titled, "China and beyond -- Exploring the relevancy of the Olympics in the 21st century" (UM).
