Blackhawks Reach Three-Year Deal To Make WGN-AM Radio Home
The Blackhawks have signed a three-year deal with WGN-AM making it the team's flagship station through the 2010-11 season (Blackhawks). In Chicago, Phil Rosenthal notes the team had been on WSCR-AM for the previous eight years. While the team "bought their airtime" on WSCR, it is believed that the WGN deal "includes a rights fee" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/30). In Illinois, Barry Rozner wrote the team will "get a ton of free publicity and a built-in driver of tickets and merchandise" on WGN. Rozner: "It's one more reason to believe the return of [former Blackhawks announcer] Pat Foley is right around the corner" (Illinois DAILY HERALD, 4/30).
