Cotton Bowl Classic Moving To January 2, Afternoon Kickoff

Cotton Bowl Classic President Rick Baker said that the '09 and 2010 bowl games "will be played at [1:00pm CT] on Jan. 2 instead of the recent [10:00am CT] kickoff on Jan. 1," a small change that could "provide a multitude of benefits," according to Brian Davis of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. While Fox Sports already has agreed to the change, the NCAA Bowl Certification Committee also needs to approve the move tomorrow at its annual meeting in Miami. Baker: "By having a 1 o'clock kickoff for both years, we'll be able to do so many more things throughout the late morning through the early afternoon to set up excitement for both games." By moving the kickoff to January 2, the Cotton Bowl will "essentially run unopposed to any other major bowl game on TV." Baker said the '09 bowl could provide a "seamless lead-in" to the Allstate Sugar Bowl scheduled to begin at 7:00pm CT the same day. Davis notes there currently is no other BCS game scheduled for the day in 2010, and the Cotton Bowl "could have the national TV stage all to itself in the new [Cowboys] stadium" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/30).
