NFL Formally Appeals Court's Decision To Continue CBA Oversight
By Daniel Kaplan, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
The NFL yesterday formally appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit a district court's decision to continue supervision over the league's CBA. The league's plan to appeal was first reported in this week's SportsBusiness Journal. Last week, U.S. District Judge David Doty dismissed the league's effort to end court oversight of the CBA. The league also asked him to step aside from the case because of bias, as well as to overturn his decision awarding disgraced Falcons QB Michael Vick his bonus. He rejected both complaints. The appeal marks only the second time in the 15 year history of the CBA the league has taken a case beyond the Minnesota court, which supervises the labor pact under term of the '93 settlement.
