In Montreal, Brendan Kelly reported French-language net RDS averaged 52% of Quebec's TV audience on April 21 during its coverage of Bruins-Canadiens Game Seven. RDS averaged 1.7 million viewers for the series, compared to 1.2 million for the net's coverage of last Canadiens playoff series in '06. The series drew a combined average of 3.2 million viewers on RDS and the CBC, making it one of the "most-watched events on Canadian TV over the past year" (Montreal GAZETTE, 4/28).

TOUGH CROWD: In Denver, Dusty Saunders wrote TNT's broadcast team for Saturday's Lakers-Nuggets Game Three "beat up the Nuggets on courtside as badly as the Lakers did on the court." Announcer Marv Albert called the Nuggets' play an "embarrassing performance." Analyst Mike Fratello, after a "particularly bad play," wondered aloud why F Carmelo Anthony was "running down the court with a smile on his face." Fratello: "He's 2-for-10 shooting" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 4/28).

NEW DEAL: In London, Dipesh Gadher reported the BBC has signed soccer analyst Alan Hansen to a four-year deal "believed to be worth up to [US$2.76M] a year." The deal was completed before the BBC last month "failed in its efforts" to secure rights to screen UEFA Champions League game highlights (LONDON TIMES, 4/27)....The Int'l Broadcast Center for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa will be based in Johannesburg, topping bids from Cape Town and Durban to host the center (DAILY VARIETY, 4/29)....ESPN Deportes today will be added to Grande Communication's digital basic channel lineup in several Texas locations, including Austin, northwest Dallas and San Antonio (ESPN).
