Red Sox Broadcaster Planning To Open
Restaurant Near Fenway Park |
Red Sox TV analyst Jerry Remy plans to open Jerry Remy's Sports Bar & Grille, which will be located "just a block away from Fenway Park," according to Jerry Kronenberg of the BOSTON HERALD. Remy has officially filed plans with Boston officials to open the 8,400-square-foot restaurant that will have 330 seats, 50 of them outdoors. The Red Sox own the building, but are leasing it to Remy "for an undisclosed sum." Remy and his partners, including former MLBer Darren Lewis, "expect to spend about $3.7[M] building the restaurant," and the team also will "cover about $1[M] of site upgrades." The restaurant plans to open before Opening Day next season. Remy's business partner John O'Rourke: "We could have opened this year, but our thinking is that that would have been too late in the season. We'll promote the restaurant as something new for next season." Kronenberg reports Remy and his partners intend to own 65% of the restaurant, but are "looking for an investor to purchase the remaining 35[%]." If the restaurant is successful, it could expand to "become a chain of eateries across New England" (BOSTON HERALD, 4/29).
