Eagles Sue Terrell Owens For Almost $770,000 In Bonus Money

Eagles Claiming Owens Still Owes

The Eagles yesterday filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia claiming that Cowboys WR Terrell Owens owes the team $769,117.65 in "bonus money he failed to repay following his suspension from the team" during the '05 season, according to Aaron Kuriloff of BLOOMBERG NEWS. An NFL arbitrator in January ruled that the Eagles were "entitled to about $1.7[M] in bonus money paid to Owens when he joined" the team prior to the '04 season. Owens, after the Eagles released him following the '06 season, signed a three-year, $25M contract with the Cowboys and has "not sought to challenge or vacate the award." The Eagles, joined in the suit by the NFL Management Council, said that the time period in which Owens may challenge the ruling "has passed, violating the terms of the league's labor agreement." Owens' agent Drew Rosenhaus declined to comment on the matter (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 4/28).
