Under Armour Spreads Wealth Among Baltimore-Area Charities

As Under Armour's (UA) earnings "continue to swell yearly by as much as 40[%], the $600[M] company is catching the attention" of Baltimore-area nonprofits, according to Ryan Sharrow of the BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL. UA execs are "being faced with the challenge of picking and choosing where the company should focus its philanthropic energies." The company already is involved with Baltimore's Living Classrooms Foundation with its own "Power in Pink" campaign which benefits women with breast cancer, and the Ronald McDonald House. Philanthropy requests, "ranging from direct cash donations to sponsoring little league baseball teams" are being received by the company. UA Senior Dir of Events, Sponsorships & Corporate Giving Amy Larkin said that the company is "focusing on three areas: Youth, education and breast cancer." Larkin would not disclose how much UA contributed last year to charities, but said, "As we've grown our donation capabilities have increased." Larkin said that in '07, UA donated 15,000 pieces of apparel to the Baltimore public school system, "up from 200" in '02. To help field the "slew of donation requests," UA in '06 launched a Web site for organizations to submit applications (BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/25 issue).
