Penguins Simulcast Home Game Outside Arena, Attract Thousands

The Penguins Friday night broadcast their home game against the Rangers outside of Mellon Arena to a "couple thousand" fans, according to Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW. The team televised the game on a 16-by-12 foot Toshiba LED wall screen, set up by California-based InnoVision Media Group, and the team throughout the day aired highlights on the screen. The Penguins also offered the outdoor screen for the team's Stanley Cup playoffs round one series against the Senators. Fans for Friday's game "arrived as much as two hours early to stake their claim in prime seating." InnoVision Video Technician Darryl Kilpatrick: "If something catches on like this, I'd be surprised if other teams don't do it." Mellon Arena concessionaire Aramark "took advantage by setting up an outdoor concession stand, charging $7 for a hamburger platter, $4 for soft drinks and $3 for bottled water" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 4/26).
