“I've bought into the hype. The intricacies of the draft process and anticipation of which players will go to which teams will always hold a high degree of excitement for me.”

“With all the egos in sports you gotta take pleasure in seeing a can’t-miss prospect with that dopey looking on his face waiting for his cell phone to ring while sitting in the green room by his lonesome.”

“We get to see all the cool stuff like war rooms, owners on the phone, players at home or in studio, highlights and all the other stuff that makes this a media frenzy, all live and in person from our own armchairs.  This spectacle needs to be held somewhere and in fact its not much different than putting on a large trade show or convention.”

“I'll watch all day Saturday, mostly because I'm longing for anything NFL related.”

“I have no interest in wasting my entire day watching the NFL draft. Truth be told, I might catch 30 total minutes of it. More than likely I’ll wait until there’s a recap on the web.”

BUILDING THE BUZZ: Sports Media Challenge's Buzz Manager analyzed the online conversation about the hype surrounding the draft. Bloggers who enjoy the constant coverage and analysis were tallied as positive. Bloggers who are tired of the unceasing build-up were counted as negative. Click here for more information. See www.sportsbusinessdaily.com for more info.

  • The topic ranked 9 out of 10 on the buzz, indicating a high level of interest among sports bloggers.
Bloggers are more upset with ESPN’s around the clock coverage than the plethora of mock drafts online. These fans believe the draft has been forcibly “shoved down their throats.”
  • The continuous coverage has provided draft analysts, Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, a celebrity status in the sports world. Unfortunately for the analysts, they are seen as illegitimately popular. Bloggers question their accuracy, and more often than not poke fun at Kiper’s interesting hair style.
  • Whether fans enjoy or detest the hype, they are in agreement that the draft can’t come soon enough.
