Darren McFadden Reportedly Signs Four-Year Nike Deal

McFadden Reportedly Signs Four-Year
Endorsement Deal With Nike
A member of NFL Draft prospect RB Darren McFadden's management team said McFadden has signed a four-year "head-to-toe" deal with Nike, according to Steve Greenberg of SPORTINGNEWS.com. The deal includes everything McFadden wears outside of his NFL-commissioned Reebok uniform and is "worth more than the unspecified deal Vikings [RB] Adrian Peterson signed with Nike" in '07. The deal was agreed to Wednesday night (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 4/25). McFadden Thursday morning appeared on Fox Business and said he and his management have been "working on a deal" with Nike, but "we haven't gotten anything final right now." McFadden added it was a "great honor" to appear on the cover of EA Sports' "NCAA Football 09" (Fox Business, 4/24). McFadden had long been expected to sign with Nike, as the company paid for his NFL combine training (THE DAILY).

FRUITS OF HIS LABOR: SPORTINGNEWS.com's Greenberg for several days has been tagging along with McFadden in N.Y. as he prepares for Saturday's NFL Draft. Greenberg reported McFadden Wednesday visited L.A.-based designer Elevee, which "clothes many of the top-name NFL and NBA prospects for the draft." Elevee outfitted McFadden with a $3,000 suit and a $3,200 Curtis & Co. watch. Elevee also had watches lined up for Dolphins' No. 1 pick OT Jake Long and prospects DT Glenn Dorsey, QB Matt Ryan and DE Vernon Gholston. All five players also will "receive a $1,000 shopping spree from Elevee." McFadden: "I'm not used to getting things for free, but I could get to like this" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 4/24).

PLAY FAKE: The AP's Noah Trister reported Arkansas resident B.J. White Thursday filed suit in Pulaski County (AR) Circuit Court alleging that she was "defrauded by a man who claimed he needed money to help a marketing company secure" McFadden's services. White claimed that Kristian Nelson "bilked her out of $180,000 -- much of which she thought would go toward a company called '501 Marketing, LLC' that would provide marketing and promotions" for McFadden and NFL Draft prospect RB Felix Jones. The suit "does not allege that McFadden, Jones or their families actually received any of the money -- or that the athletes have any business relationship with Nelson" (AP, 4/24).

MORNING HIJINKS: Dorsey, Gholston, Chris Long, Jake Long, McFadden and Ryan all appeared on CBS' "The Early Show" today and were each asked one question about their preparations for the draft. Ryan and CBS' Dave Price later threw a football at a bull's-eye with a picture of Price in the center ("The Early Show," CBS, 4/25).
