Minnesota, Hawaii Football Teams Unveil New Uniforms

Minnesota Debuts New Nike Uniforms
The Univ. of Minnesota (UM) football team Wednesday debuted new Nike uniforms that feature "Minnesota" across the chest, a "darker shade of maroon and the return of white pants for the first time since 1967," according to Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. The new uniforms mark UM's "first major uniform change in football" since '99. School officials and Nike designers "brainstormed for six months and came up with six different uniform combinations that feature a number of changes in design and material." UM QB Adam Weber: "They're a lot lighter. You feel like you're not really wearing a uniform at all. These uniforms have a way of making you feel like you're playing football out in the backyard." UM head equipment manager Darin Kerns said that the uniforms have "better ventilation and incorporate a new fabric that reduces 'grab points' -- areas that opponents can grab and hold" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/24).

 Sketches Of Univ. Of Hawaii's
New Under Armour Uniforms
HAWAII: In Honolulu, Stephen Tsai reported the Univ. of Hawaii (UH) football team Wednesday formally introduced its new Under Armour uniforms. The jerseys are black (home) and white (away) with "green short sleeves made with a tapa design and dark-green trim." The pants are "black to match the black jerseys and green to go with the white tops." UH coach Greg McMackin said that the pants and jerseys "can be mixed and matched." McMackin added that he is "pleased with Under Armour's shoes, which are lighter than the Nike cleats" Hawaii used in '07. The school in February signed an eight-year contract with Under Armour (HONOLULU ADVERTISER, 4/24).
