Party On The Tracks: Saratoga To Host Free Rock Concert
Saratoga Race Course officials Wednesday said that the track "will host a free rock festival after this summer's racing season ends," according to Dennis Yusko of the Albany TIMES UNION. A new food venue and another luxury box also are on tap. Saratoga Facilities Manager Charlie Wheeler said that the New York Racing Association (NYRA) is working with whiskey maker Southern Comfort to sponsor the season-ending September 13 concert to be held in the track's parking lot. Wheeler "expects thousands of 20-somethings at the festival" which will be held on a Saturday two weeks after the end of the track's 140th racing season. NYRA Senior VP/Sales & Market Development Gavin Landry said that the new food tent "will cost $25 to $35 to enter, and offer designated seating for groups and a picnic-like food menu." The season-ending concert is part of NYRA's "plans to capitalize on the Capital Region's top sports venue and turn it into an entertainment destination capable of generating additional revenue.'' Landry: "The concert is a reflection that NYRA perceives all of its racetracks as venues, destinations used to host major events. We're having discussions with all three tracks that will allow us to offer things to people who may or may not come for the races." NYRA execs said that other new events and "happenings at the Spa track this year will be announced later." NYRA also operates Belmont Park and Aqueduct Race Track (Albany TIMES UNION, 4/24).
