Media Notes

In a front-page piece for the WALL STREET JOURNAL, David Kesmodel reports Miller Brewing Co. employee and former Ad Age reporter James Arndorfer's Brew Blog, a free Web site "dedicated to breaking news about beer," is the "latest and perhaps most unlikely front in Miller's drive to rattle [A-B]." Beer Business Daily Editor Harry Schuhmacher said while Arndorfer covers other brewers, he is "fixated on A-B." The blog, created by Miller Communications Consultants Paul Pendergrass and Pete Marino, in the month ending April 10 received "about 24,000 visits" and more than 12,000 unique visitors. The site's home page "prominently states that the blog is 'brought to you by the Miller Brewing Co.," and it has "enough influence that a staffer at a PR agency for [A-B] pitched a story" about Budweiser's Super Bowl ads (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 4/24).

BRINGING IN REINFORCEMENTS: TNT announced former NBAer Chris Webber will appear on multiple network outlets throughout the end of the NBA Playoffs. Webber will make several appearances on TNT, host a weekly online series on TNT Overtime on NBA.com and appear on NBA TV (TNT). In Ft. Lauderdale, Ira Winderman reports Heat C Alonzo Mourning will "appear as a guest analyst on TNT's Saturday playoff coverage" beginning at 2:30pm ET. Heat G Dwyane Wade also will appear on TNT's coverage on May 1 (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 4/24).

NOTES: FSN has received seven nominations for the '08 Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy awards. Among the nominees are FSN's live game Mariners production, nominated for its fifth Emmy award, and the net's live game Sonics production, which received its second nomination (FSN)....In Charlotte, Jeff Elder writes Time Warner Cable Arena has a "sharp and user-friendly Web site, designed by Carbonhouse," which has built sites for Raleigh's RBC Center, Newark's Prudential Center, Minneapolis' Target Center and K.C.'s Sprint Center (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 4/24).
