BOSTON SPORTS MEDIA WATCH's David Scott reported Boston Globe baseball writer Gordon Edes "has agreed 'in principle' to a job" with Yahoo Sports as a national baseball writer. Edes reportedly was "still hoping to be part of the buyout offer at the Globe" (BOSTONSPORTSMEDIAWATCH.com, 4/22). In a separate piece, Scott reported Boston Globe basketball writer Peter May also is "leaving the paper." May said in an e-mail he “will cover the Celtics thru the Atlanta series for the Globe" and then leave the paper (BOSTONSPORTSMEDIAWATCH.com, 4/22).

Writer Criticizes ESPN For "E:60"

AGE APPROPRIATE? In Houston, Jerome Solomon writes of ESPN's "E:60" confronting Astros SS Miguel Tejada about his age, "Often ESPN gets criticized just because it's ESPN, the bully on the block. This time it is warranted." It was a
"legitimate story ... but cheapened by the way it was handled." This "wasn't about baseball. It was about getting Tejada on tape in a classic 'gotcha' television moment" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 4/23). WFAN-AM radio host Chris Russo said of the "E:60" report, “They want to be '60 Minutes.' They want to be hard-hitting. ... They sandbagged [Tejada] and ESPN loves to be buddies with these athletes” (“Late Show,” CBS, 4/22).
NOTES: USA TODAY's Bob Kimball reports Chinese hackers "apparently upset with CNN's coverage of China's dealings with Tibet forced a shutdown this week of The Sports Network [TSN], which provides CNN with sports content." TSN Dir of Sales Ken Zajac: "We got caught in the crossfire of collateral damage" (USA TODAY, 4/23)....ESPN's "My Wish" series, which chronicles sports-themed wishes granted to children with life-threatening medical conditions, will return to "SportsCenter" on Sunday June 29 and will run through Thursday July 3. The series is presented in cooperation with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Walt Disney Company (ESPN)....The NBA last week had two of the top five downloads on YouTube (THE DAILY).
