Falk Donates $5M To Sports Management Program At Syracuse

Sports agent DAVID FALK and his wife have donated $5M to Syracuse Univ., their alma mater, "to help bring star faculty, students and internship opportunities to its three-year-old sports-management program," according to Hannah Karp of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Falk, who hopes his "'human contribution' will be more significant than his financial contribution," will serve as an adviser and guest lecturer for the program at the new Falk Center and "will tap his network of industry leaders to visit classes as well, to keep the program from becoming 'too academic.'" However, Falk will not teach students "how to become the next David Falk." Falk: "The sports agent business has become so corrupt -- I would not encourage anyone to try to become an agent right now." Karp noted of the 20 sports-management majors that will graduate from Syracuse in May, "five have already secured jobs, and four plan to attend graduate school" (SJ.com, 4/22).
