Safeco Fans Can Use Nintendo Devices For Enhanced Network

Nintendo DS Owners Can Access Safeco Field's
Wireless Nintendo Fan Network For Free
Fans at Safeco Field can use their Nintendo Dual Screen (DS) game players to "access the stadium's wireless Nintendo Fan Network free of charge," according to Bill Hutchens of the Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE. The network, exclusive to Safeco, allows DS owners to "track player stats, watch stadium video and access other" MLB information. On the DS, a handheld two-screen game system, the bottom screen is "touch-sensitive, and players can use a stylus to make menu selections or 'draw' shapes, lines and other images into games." To access the network while inside the ballpark, DS owners "need to spend about a minute downloading the network software at one of more than a dozen stations" around Safeco. Mariners Dir of Public Information Rebecca Hale said that users will need to download the software each time they visit Safeco "to get the latest upgrades." As part of the network, fans will have access to a stadium-wide chat network, live "in-house video coverage of the game" and live radio coverage from KOMO-AM. The service this weekend "should see a new pitch-tracking feature" (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 4/23).
