Sprinting To The Sponsor Line: Gay Signs On With Corporate Trio

Gay Adds Sega, Omega And McDonald's To
Marketing Portfolio Ahead Of Beijing Olympics
Sega, Omega and McDonald's have all "finalized endorsement deals" with U.S. Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay, according to Tripp Mickle of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. While terms of the deals were not available, Global Athletics & Marketing (GAM) Marketing Dir Rich Kenah, whose company represents Gay, said that Gay will earn more than $2M in '08 "on those endorsements and his Adidas partnership." Gay will be one of the cover athletes for Sega's "Beijing 2008" videogame with fellow U.S. Olympians swimmer Amanda Beard, gymnast Nastia Luikin and shot putter Reese Hoffa. Meanwhile, Omega signed a global deal with Gay and is "finalizing plans for how it will incorporate him into advertising and marketing." GAM President Mark Wetmore said that McDonald's signed Gay to a domestic deal "with the option to make it global." The QSR beginning in June will use images of Gay at retail and online in "support of its Southern style chicken sandwich." Gay will appear in ads beside other McDonald's-sponsored Olympic hopefuls, including gymnast Shawn Johnson, weightlifter Melanie Roach, swimmer Ryan Lochte, BMX racer Donny Robinson and wrestler Patricia Miranda (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/21 issue).
