OH CANADA: Raptors' regular-season audiences on TSN, Rogers Sportsnet and the Score grew for the second consecutive season. TSN averaged 164,000 viewers for 21 games (+6%), Sportsnet averaged 150,000 for 12 games (+13%) and the Score averaged 119,000 viewers for 30 games (+7%). The CBC, in its first year as a Raptors broadcaster, topped all Canadian nets with 181,000 viewers for seven Sunday afternoon telecasts (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 4/16)….French-language sports net RDS has "reeled in more Quebec viewers than the CBC has countrywide" with its broadcasts of the Canadiens-Bruins first round Stanley Cup playoff series. For the first four games, RDS averaged 1.6 million viewers and had a Quebec market share around 40%, while the CBC says it averaged 1.4 million viewers across Canada (HAMILTON SPECTATOR, 4/18).
BALLS & STRIKES: ESPN has averaged 2.0 million HHs for its first four MLB broadcasts this season, up 52% from 1.3 million HHs for the first five games of '07 (ESPN)….Last Sunday's Brewers-Mets game on FSN Wisconsin earned a 9.2 HH rating (82,000 HHs), while the same matchup last Saturday on the net earned a 7.9 rating and 70,000 HHs (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/15).
THE MASTERS: Last weekend, CBS averaged a 7.3/16 Nielsen rating and 11.0 million viewers for its two telecasts of The Masters, down 3.9% and 7.6%, respectively, from a 7.6/18 and 11.9 million viewers last year (THE DAILY). ESPN's coverage of the tournament on Thursday and Friday delivered 20% more HHs and more than double the audience of men 18-34 then USA's coverage last year (THE DAILY). Last Sunday's final round had a 9.8 HH rating on WDJT-CBS in Milwaukee (87,000 HHs), peaking at a 15.2 rating and 135,000 HHs in the 6:15-6:30pm CT window (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/15).
