This Week's Newsmakers: Who Doesn't Love Free Food?

THE DAILY each Friday offers our take on the performances over the past week of people and entities in sports business. Here are this week’s newsmakers.

MSG Scores With
Free Food For Fans
WIN: MSG -- Yes, you read right! Hey, free food and drink for all fans who actually sat through the Knicks’ season finale. Sure, fans deserved a 10-game free food plan, but one game is a start. Good for Steve Mills and company for making this one happen.

LOSS: Carmelo Anthony -- Just when Melo seems ready to put his checkered past behind him, his DUI arrest has pundits again questioning if he'll ever grow up. While the recent extension of his Jordan Brand deal and his marketing agency switch indicate Melo is aiming to grow his global brand, incidents like these will continue to mire him in the stereotype of a young, spoiled NBA millionaire.

DRAW: HOWARD SCHULTZ -- His last-ditch effort to save the day for pro hoops in Seattle seems to be too little, too late. It's hard to believe Schultz didn’t have a suspicion that Clay Bennett’s group would only go through the motions when it came to “good faith'' negotiations. We’d be too cynical, however, to think his attempt to win back the Sonics is a ploy to sell more Lattes, as some have suggested.
