T'Wolves May Sell Season Tickets For As Low As $1 Per Game

The T'Wolves yesterday unveiled the "Pay the Pick" promotion for the '08-09 season in which "fans could buy a full season-ticket package for as little as $1 a game, depending on the results" of May's NBA Draft lottery, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. If the team wins the No. 1 pick for June's draft, a season-ticket in an upper-deck end location will be $43, or about $1 per game. The amount per ticket per game will directly correspond with the team's selection in the draft, so if the team wins the No. 2 pick, the price jumps to about $2 per game, or $86 for the season. The lowest the team can draft is No. 5. The offer is limited to the first 500 fans who place a $43 non-refundable deposit, and there is a limit of 10 tickets per person (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/17).

TAKING A CHANCE: In Minneapolis, Michael Rand wrote of the promotion, "Perhaps this underscores our insanity or our love of a great deal, but it intrigues us. It’s a huge risk-reward -- the cheaper the ticket, presumably, the more reason you would want to watch this team because they would be bringing in a higher-caliber pick, presumably either Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley in the case of the under $100 options."  However, Rand "wonders what the impact of such a huge and desperate price cut will be." It is "hard to fathom a team selling its product for so little." This "isn’t some fly by night league. ... This is the National Basketball Association" (STARTRIBUNE.com, 4/16).
