Bruins Selling Dasherboard Ads To Canadian
Companies During Series Against Habs
In Boston, Fluto Shinzawa reports four Canadian companies -- Pizza Pizza, Jeld-Wen of Canada, Air Canada and CKAC 730-AM -- purchased dasherboard ads at TD Banknorth Garden for Games Three and Four of the Canadiens-Bruins Stanley Cup playoff series. Bruins Senior VP/Sales & Marketing Amy Latimer said there is "flexible marketing during the playoffs. ... This particular advertising placement was targeting Canadian households. This is not the first time we have done this." The CBC and RDS broadcast the games in Canada, and Latimer noted the signs would not have been in place had the games been broadcast nationally in the U.S. on NBC or Versus (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/17).

QB BLITZ: West Virginia Univ. will begin marketing QB Pat White as a Heisman Trophy candidate after this Saturday's spring football game. WVU coach Bill Stewart said the push should begin with White being "on the cover of our media guide." Stewart: "Whatever our people can do for [White], they should do. Patrick is such a down-to-earth, level guy, I'm not scared about him and what the attention might do" (CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL, 4/15).

NOTES: The Yankees have signed NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital to a multi-year sponsorship as the official hospital of the team. Under the deal, the hospital will provide medical care for the players at Yankee Stadium (Yankees)....Maryland Jockey Club President Chris Dragone said that he is "near closing a sponsorship deal that would pay for half" of the Pimlico Special's $250,000 purse. The event will be held on May 16 after being canceled last year (WASHINGTON POST, 4/17)....ESPNShop.com this season saw a 195% increase in sales of Univ. of Kansas men's basketball tournament championship apparel over Univ. of Florida apparel in '07 (ESPN).
