NCAA Extends Ticket Application For
'09 Men's Basketball Tournament |
The NCAA has "extended the ticket application deadline" to May 15 for fans seeking tickets to the first and second rounds of the '09 NCAA men's basketball tournament after the Web site through which tickets are being sold, www.ncaa.com/tickets, launched 22 days late, according to Mike Tokito of the Portland OREGONIAN. Tickets were slated to go on sale March 24 on the site, but it did not go online until Tuesday. NCAA Assistant Dir of Men's Basketball Ben Weesies: "It wasn't a byproduct of things not being ready, it was a byproduct of it being a new system and a new procedure, and there were some issues that popped up that were unforeseen both by us and the site operator." While in previous years tickets for the tournament were "handled by host venues," the NCAA for the first time this year is "handling ticket sales itself, and the organization hired Ticketmaster to create and run the Web site." Weesies: "We thought it was a way to relieve some of the stress from the venues" (Portland OREGONIAN, 4/16).
