Devil In The Details: New Duke AD To Face Several Challenges

Duke President Richard Brodhead said that Senior Associate AD Chris Kennedy "will act as the interim AD" until a replacement can be found for Joe Alleva, who accepted the LSU AD position earlier this month, according to Luciana Chavez of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. Brodhead also appointed Yahoo Chair and former Duke football player Roy Bostock to "lead a search committee" for the new AD. The incoming AD will face a "big, looming issue: When will ... men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski retire and how will he be replaced?" Brodhead and Bostock have to "find a person who must be capable of figuring out the post-Krzyzewski future of Duke athletics." Football also will be a "high priority" for the new AD, as Wallace Wade Stadium long has "needed basic upgrades to its restrooms and concessions areas." The new AD also will "guide the implementation of a strategic plan for the athletic department" which includes a "number of important directives about the football program from admissions practices to recruiting philosophy and facilities upgrades." Chavez noted the "ultimate goal" for the Duke athletic department is to "endow all of its scholarships," as currently 61 scholarships across all sports are endowed. Possible candidates for the job include Duke Associate AD Mike Cragg and former Florida State Univ. AD Dave Hart (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 4/14).
