MLS Fire Dismiss Guppy; Leon To Take Over As Interim President, GM

| Guppy Out As Fire President & GM |
The MLS Chicago Fire Friday dismissed President & GM JOHN GUPPY, ending his tenure with the team three years after he was hired, according to Luis Arroyave of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Andell Sports Group Managing Dir and Former Chivas USA CEO JAVIER LEON will serve as interim President & GM while the Fire search for Guppy's replacement. Former Fire owner AEG in '05 hired Guppy after he had spent five seasons with the MetroStars. But after AEG sold the Fire to ANDREW HAUPTMAN in September, Guppy "had to adapt to an owner who was significantly more hands on." Arroyave noted Hauptman and Guppy "frequently disagreed on how the team should be run." Guppy "isn't sure what he will do next but didn't rule out returning to the league" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/12). Guppy: "It's critical for a team owner and the president to be on the same page, and I don't know that (Hauptman) and I ever managed to do that" (DAILY SOUTHTOWN, 4/12).
