Three Grizzlies Fans Injured When FedExForum Railing Collapses
A railing overlooking a tunnel leading into the FedExForum locker rooms Saturday gave way "injuring three people about an hour before the Grizzlies' regular-season home finale," according to Ronald Tillery of the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL. One person was taken away on a stretcher and two others were treated at the scene. Grizzlies Dir of Media Relations Dustin Krugel said that all three "were taken to various Memphis hospitals as a precaution." Witnesses said that "at least a dozen people were leaning on the rail requesting autographs" when five people fell about three feet to the concrete floor as the players exited the court. FedExForum officials said no one suffered serious injuries. FedExForum Senior VP/Arena Operations Steve Zito: "We're going to look into it. We're going to get with the seating company and see what happened." Tillery noted the Grizzlies relocated season-ticket holders for the game as the section was roped off "immediately after the incident" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 4/13).
