CBS' BILLY PACKER was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America as the '08 winner of the JAKE WADE AWARD. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made a contribution in the media to the field of intercollegiate athletics (CBS).

BIOVAIL: A judge has ruled former Bank of America stock analyst JERRY TREPPEL can conduct a forensic search of drug maker Biovail Corp. Chair & CEO and  Senators Owner EUGENE MELNYK's laptop computer "for deleted e-mails." The ruling permits Treppel to "search for additional electronic evidence that could be relevant to his case." Treppel is suing Biovail for defamation (REUTERS, 4/3).

NAMES: Jaguars coach JACK DEL RIO Thursday signed a five-year $23.5M contract, a "day before his 45th birthday." Del Rio was in the final year of a contract that paid him $3M per season (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/4). Hockey HOFer GORDIE HOWE was presented a No. 17 Red Wings jersey -- his original number -- and the stat sheet from his NHL debut by NHL Senior VP/Hockey Operations JIM GREGORY during Howe’s 80th birthday party at Joe Louis Arena Sunday (DETROIT NEWS, 4/4).
