Chevron To Title Sponsor World Challenge Golf Tournament

Chevron has signed a five-year deal with the Tiger Woods Foundation (TWF) that will see the company assume the title sponsorship of the TWF's World Challenge golf tournament at Sherwood Country Club in California. Also, Chevron will become a founding partner of the PGA Tour AT&T National, which is hosted by Woods. As part of the deal, Chevron will support efforts to expand TWF's programs, exploring opportunities in California, other U.S. locations and select international locations (TWF). Chevron replaces Target as the title sponsor of the World Challenge event after Target opted out of its deal. It had titled the unofficial money event since '02. Financial terms were not disclosed, but IMG was seeking around $7M annually for the World Challenge and $600,000 annually for the AT&T opening. Chevron also recently signed a sponsorship with Golf Channel. Meanwhile, Countrywide, under contract through '09, remains the presenting sponsor of the World Challenge for now. The company is in the process of being bought by Bank of America, whose interest in golf title sponsorships has declined in recent years (Jon Show, SportsBusiness Journal).

FASHION SHOW: In L.A., Thomas Bonk reports Nike has already "scripted what Tiger Woods is going to wear each day at the Masters." He will wear a pink and khaki striped polo shirt with khaki pants on Thursday and Friday will feature a black mock turtleneck with gray plaid pants. For the weekend, Woods will wear a white striped polo shirt with black pants on Saturday and a magenta and pink polo with pink vertical stripes and black pants on Sunday. He will wear a white cap Thursday-Saturday and a black cap on Sunday (L.A. TIMES, 4/3). The shirts Woods will wear are available at retail for $75-85 (THE DAILY).

BALL MARKER: Woods writes in his monthly newsletter this year marks the "first time I have played a production ball," meaning players can "buy the exact same Nike One Platinum [balls] right off the shelf" (TIGERWOODS.com, 4/2).
