WNBA Liberty President & GM CAROL BLAZEJOWSKI is featured in CRAIN’S N.Y. BUSINESS and she "intends to use her marketing expertise to build brand equity and boost the team's public profile." After home attendance decreased 5% last season to an average of 8,615, Blazejowski "has her work cut out for her." To grow the team's fan base, Blazejowski "plans to hold one of this season's games at a high-profile and as yet-undisclosed venue" in N.Y. and also is "working to advance community outreach programs, like Inspiring Women Night" July 25, and nonprofit partnerships (CRAIN'S N.Y. BUSINESS, 3/31 issue). 

RETIREMENT PITCH: Former MLBer LEN DYKSTRA appeared on Fox Business this morning to promote his magazine, “The Players Club.” Dykstra: “This is about all professional sports. It’s not baseball only. It’s about players having the opportunity -- for the first time -- to buy cash flow, meaning when they retire at 35, 34, they have no skill, they have no job, they have no way to earn. So what they need to do is they need to buy cash flow through an annuitized product and this is a conduit to educate them in the clubhouses” (Fox Business, 4/1).

Aikman Plans To Add To HOF Racing Stake
NASCAR NOTES: HOF Racing minority co-Owner TROY AIKMAN "plans to invest in the team and attend some races every year" while partner ROGER STAUBACH said that he is "ready to retire from racing, probably after this season." Staubach: "It's not a goal of mine to continue." Aikman said that his role this season "isn't much different than what it was the first two years of the team's existence" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/1)....In Charlotte, Jefferson George writes SMI Chair BRUTON SMITH in '07 "received about $1.8[M] in total compensation."'  His '07 pay, "dipped 11[%] from about $2[M]" in '06. Smith was paid the same salary of $600,000 both years, but his bonus compensation in '07 was $1.23M, down from $1.45M in '06. SMI Exec VP/National Sales & Marketing MARCUS SMITH "received $981,378 in bonus, an increase of more than 22[%]" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 4/1).

NAMES: Former NBAer and musician WAYMAN TISDALE recorded BARRY WHITE's "Never Gonna Give You Up" with country musician TOBY KEITH for his upcoming album "Rebound," set for a June 3 release (N.Y. IN MEMORY: Motor Racing Outreach Founder MAX HELTON, a "pastor and a friend to hundreds of people in the NASCAR community," died Sunday at his home in Huntersville, North Carolina. Helton was diagnosed with brain cancer in August (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 4/1).
