Nike's Brand Jordan With Extension |
BDA Sports Management VP Cal Andrews yesterday said that Nuggets F Carmelo Anthony has "signed a long-term extension with Nike's Jordan Brand,'' according to Ric Bucher of ESPN.com. The deal continues a "relationship that was set to end next year'' and signals that Anthony has "rehabilitated his image after a series of damaging incidents shortly after he entered the league." Andrews declined to reveal the terms of the deal, but one source "put it at just over $60[M] for seven years." The deal, with royalties, would make Anthony the "second highest-paid player behind [Cavaliers F] LeBron James among Nike's NBA clients, just ahead of Sonics [F] Kevin Durant." BDA and its marketing team negotiated the deal, which contradicts reports last week that Anthony "had terminated his relationship with [BDA's] marketing division." The reports were "based on a release issued by the Nuggets on Anthony's behalf." Andrews said that the change is that BDA's deal with Anthony is "no longer exclusive, allowing him to pursue and accept commercials and other deals brought to him by other agencies." Andrews remains Anthony's player agent. Anthony was unavailable for comment (ESPN.com, 3/26).
