XM Satellite Radio's Play Ball will launch on XM channel 120 for a "special limited run March 29-30 in honor of [MLB's] opening day" on March 31, according to Susan Whitall of the DETROIT NEWS. The channel will feature audio clips from the past, including famous calls; comedy bits like Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First?"; George Carlin's "Baseball and Football"; and Garrison Keillor's reading of "Casey at the Bat." The station also will run interviews with current MLBers including Yankees SS Derek Jeter and Baseball HOFers including Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn. Tracks from the 412-song library include "Centerfield" by John Fogerty, "The Lou Piniella Polka" by Babbo Fossatti, "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio" by Les Brown, "Doc Ellis" by S.F. Seals, "Nolan Ryan" by Jerry Jeff Walker, "I Love Mickey (Mantle)" by Teresa Brewer, "Catfish" by Bob Dylan, three Willie Mays songs and 16 versions of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," including one by the Goo Goo Dolls. Non-subscribers can tune in to Play Ball from March 29-31 by signing up for a free three-day subscription at listen.xmradio.com (DETROIT NEWS, 3/20).
