Dolphins OT VERNON CAREY, former FB ROB KONRAD and Marlins President DAVID SAMSON were among winning bidders at Tuesday's annual Make-A-Wish Ultimate Sports Auction at the Broward County (FL) Convention Center. Other athletes in attendance included Dolphins QB JOHN BECK, former U.S. Olympian BOB BEAMON and Giants WR SINORICE MOSS. The event, emceed by NBC's BOB COSTAS, raised $240,000 (MIAMI HERALD, 3/13)....The Registry of Motor Vehicles is sending Red Sox players custom mini-Fenway Park license plates which will correspond to the players' jersey numbers. Red Sox 1B KEVIN YOUKILIS has offered his No. 20 license plate to raise money for his charity, Hits for Kids, and P CURT SCHILLING has made similar arrangements for his No. 38 plate (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/13).

For Induction Into U.S. Olympic HOF
NAMES: Lowe's Motor Speedway Exec VP/Management & Administration LAURI WILKS yesterday was awarded the Charlotte BusinessWoman of the Year award by Queens Univ. (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 3/13)....The following U.S. Olympic teams are up for induction into the U.S. Olympic HOF: the '92 men's basketball team, the '76 women's swimming 400-meter freestyle relay, the '96 synchronized swimming team, the '96 women's gymnastics team and the '98 women's ice hockey team. Voting is available to fans until March 28 at USOlympicHallofFame.com, and only one of the nominated teams will be chosen for induction, set for June in Chicago (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/13)....The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed Resolution 948, congratulating the Univ. of Kansa on winning the '08 FedEx Orange Bowl (K.C. STAR, 3/13).

IN MEMORY: Trek Bicycle Corp. Founder RICHARD BURKE died Monday at the age of 73 of complications after a December heart surgery (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/12)...Former CFL Argonauts and Alouettes GM J.I. ALBRECHT died at the age of 77 (CALGARY HERALD, 3/12).
