SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL’s John Lombardo reports former Atlanta Spirit CEO BERNIE MULLIN has formed the Aspire Group, a sports consulting firm, and the NHL and the Indians have signed as clients. Mullin created the firm with partner MICHAEL DITCHFIELD. Mullin will operate from Atlanta, while Ditchfield will be based in Denver (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/3 issue).

DICK CLARK PRODUCTIONS: Redskins Owner DANIEL SNYDER has "pretty much handed the operations" of Dick Clark Productions (DCP) to Six Flags CEO and former ESPN Exec VP/Programming & Production MARK SHAPIRO. Meanwhile, former "Playmakers" Exec Producer ORLY ADELSON last week was named DCP President "to help turn Dick Clark into a more active content-producer" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/3).

FRANCHISES: The MLB Rangers officially signed President NOLAN RYAN to a four-year contract Friday and extended the contract of GM JON DANIELS through 2011. Terms of both deals were not disclosed (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/1)….The Phillies hired QVC VP/PR BONNIE CLARK as VP/Communications (Phillies)….The Raptors hired JOHN LUCAS as a basketball development consultant for the rest of the season (Raptors).

EXECS: The LPGA has hired former WNBA Business Development Dir CHRISTIE HOWARD as Dir of Corporate Partnerships. Howard will be the first LPGA employee based in N.Y. She will report to recently promoted VP/Corporate Partnerships KATHIE VU (Jon Show, SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/3 issue)….JIMMY BRUNS, formerly VP/Sponsorships for Rusty Wallace Racing, has been hired as VP/Sales for Connexions Sports & Entertainment, a Radiate Group Agency. Bruns, who starts today, will work out of the Radiate offices in Charlotte and will focus on selling motorsports opportunities (Michael Smith, SportsBusiness Journal)….The AFL promoted ALISON WAGNER to VP/League Development & Legal Affairs, BENJAMIN BAKER to Broadcast Manager and MIKE PEPPERMAN to Community Relations Manager (THE DAILY).
