GOLF CHANNEL: Golf Channel's coverage last Friday of day three of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship earned a 2.0 coverage rating, making it the highest-rated PGA Tour rating ever on the net. Only Friday coverage of The Masters and the PGA Championship had a higher cable rating in the past two years. Golf Channel's Wednesday and Thursday's telecasts also marked the highest-rated and most-viewed day one and day two telecasts in the history of the tournament (THE DAILY).
BRACKETBUSTERS: Last weekend's seven BracketBuster games on ESPN2 and ESPN Classic averaged 236,000 viewers. The most-viewed game was Drake-Butler last Saturday on ESPN2, which averaged 648,000 viewers from 5:11-7:05pm ET (THE DAILY).
NORTH OF THE BORDER: French-language net RDS' coverage of the Canadiens' tribute to GM Bob Gainey at the Bell Centre last Saturday pulled in 819,000 viewers, which was over 100,000 more than the net averages for the team's games. "Hockey Night in Canada's" coverage of the pregame show drew 670,000 on the CBC, second only to "Hockey Day In Canada's" pregame audience (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/26)….TSN's audience of 166,000 for the net's coverage of Tuesday's NHL trade deadline jumped 11% from last year. Sportsnet's 54,000 viewers was flat, and the Score's 12,000 viewers represented an increase of 33%. RDS topped them all, drawing 268,000, but the telecast was only four hours in length, airing from 1:00-5:00pm ET. TSN and Sportsnet were on the air for ten hours and the Score for 10 ½ hours (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/28).
CLARIFICATION: Due to a change in ratings from Nielsen, the NBA ratings chart from Thursday, February 14 should have had the Trail Blazers up 125% instead of 294% on CSN Portland when compared to the same time period on FSN Northwest the previous year (THE DAILY).
