Rams Owner Rosenbloom Has No Plans To Sell, Relocate Team

Rams Owner Says There Are No
Current Plans To Relocate, Sell Team
Rams Owner Chip Rosenbloom, who along with his sister Lucia Rodriguez inherited 60% ownership of the team after their mother, Georgia Frontiere, died in January, has "no interest in moving the Rams, and no current plans to sell the team," according to Jim Thomas of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Rosenbloom, in his first interview as Rams Owner, said of selling the club, "We haven't approached anybody. We haven't been approached. So I don't know what else to say about it. ... Could I see us owning the team long term? Absolutely." Rams Vice Chair Stan Kroenke owns the remaining 40% of the team, but Rosenbloom said he does not see Kroenke assuming majority ownership.Thomas noted NFL cross-ownership rules "prevent Kroenke from owning a majority interest in the Rams while also owning the Nuggets and Avalanche." Meanwhile, the death of Frontiere "triggered rumblings that the Rams might move back to the West Coast," as Rosenbloom lives in L.A. But he "does not have fond football memories" of the city. Rosenbloom: "I personally don't feel that my mother ever had a fair shot in Los Angeles" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 2/28).

CONCERNED ABOUT FAN BASE: In a separate piece, the POST-DISPATCH's Thomas asked Rosenbloom in a Q&A if he is "concerned about an eroding fan base." Rosenbloom: "I don't know why we weren't selling out [last season]. Is it our fault? Is it lack of support? I don't know the answer to that. ... And it is concerning. I hope it's not an eroding fan base." On his ownership style, Rosenbloom said, "I see us really managing the team as owners. Not as football people. I see it more of a thing where we're involved in major decisions, we're hiring the best people possible for the job. ... I actually think fans prefer owners who are involved when necessary. Which is what I would be" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 2/28).
