Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Interim President MINO AULETTA and Honorary Secretary of the Int'l Amateur Swimming Federation GUNNAR WERNER have joined the race for the vacant CAS presidency. The IOC nominated Auletta and Werner, who join former WADA Chair DICK POUND and Swiss lawyer ROBERT BRINER. The 20-member CAS council will elect the new president at its next meeting in Monaco April 3 (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/27).

Coughlin Talking With Publishers
About Possible Memoir
BOOKS & FILM: Giants coach TOM COUGHLIN "has begun holding talks about a memoir" based on the team's '07-08 Super Bowl season. Coughlin's agent Sandy Montag: "He's had discussions with some publishers and in the next week we expect to have more discussions" (N.Y. POST, 2/27)....Basketball HOFer EARL MONROE and producer DAN KLORES' basketball documentary "Black Magic" premiered Monday at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Among those that appeared at the screening were WALT FRAZIER, BEN JOBE, SONNY HILL, MEL DAVIS, BOB DANDRIDGE, BOB LOVE and PEE WEE KIRKLAND. ESPN will air the film March 16 and 17 (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/27).

NAMES: English Premier League club Manchester City Chair THAKSIN SHINAWATRA is "expected to be arrested when he returns to Thailand tomorrow after a 17-month exile." The former Prime Minister of Thailand is due on a flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok tonight for his first visit to his homeland since he was overthrown from government in September '06 (LONDON TIMES, 2/27)....Trail Blazers C GREG ODEN was "making news in Ohio Tuesday with his endorsement" of U.S. Sen. and Presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA (D-IL). Oden is "plastered all over Obama's Ohio Web site," and Oden wrote on his blog that he has had a "personal phone chat" with Obama (OREGONLIVE.com, 2/26)....Int'l Tennis HOF CEO MARK STENNING has been named the winner of the Schroeder Award for Distinguished Service by the Int'l Sports Heritage Association (ISHA) and will receive the award during the organization's 37th Annual Conference in Macon, Georgia later this month (ISHA).

IN MEMORY: Myron Cope, who served as the Steelers color analyst from ’70-‘04, died today at the age of 79. Cope was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in ’05 and his tenure with the Steelers was the “longest in NFL history for a broadcaster with a single team.” He is also credited with creating the Terrible Towel Steelers fans wave  (AP, 2/27)....MARGARET KISTLER, "believed to be the first female sportswriter in Texas," died Friday of a heart attack at the age of 63. Kistler worked for The Bellville Times, Abilene Reporter-News, Temple Daily Telegram and Dallas Morning News. A memorial service is planned for 3:00pm CT tomorrow at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville, Texas (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/27).
