San Antonio Final Four Host Hotel Still Under Construction
The ground floor of the San Antonio Grand Hyatt, the hotel HQs for the '08 NCAA Men's Final Four basketball tournament, "remains under construction," and developer FaulknerUSA employees said that the project is "three months behind schedule," according to Ken Rodriguez of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. The Grand Hyatt is set to open March 19, about eight days before tournament organizers begin arriving, although the opening date "already has been pushed back twice." When asked if the hotel will be completed in time, the hotel and FaulknerUSA "say, 'Yes of course' it will." The NCAA has "no backup plan if the Grand Hyatt can't open," but San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau Assistant Dir of Sales & Marketing John Solis said that the NCAA is "not worried." Solis: "They just don't have a reason to even ask us to look at a Plan B right now." Rodriguez notes the NCAA has reserved 850 rooms at the hotel for the Final Four (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 2/20).
