Yankees Shopping Top Sponsorship
At New Ballpark For $20M Annually |
One proposal for the "top sponsorship" at the new Yankee Stadium set to open in '09 is listed for about $20M annually, according to Terry Lefton in this week's SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The sponsorship package, being sold by CAA Sports, includes a "variety of sign and marketing inventory" in and around the new ballpark, but does not include stadium naming rights. The Yankees and CAA are "attempting to sell one of the biggest facility sponsorship packages ever without what's usually considered the most valuable piece of sponsorship inventory." Former IEG Senior VP/Business Development Rob Yowell, a naming-rights consultant, said, "As the uber-brand for baseball, and sports generally, the Yankees are the only American franchise that could do this, with the possible exception of the Cowboys. But I would put any price tag, even the asking price, in quotes on this, because you are dealing with a proposition that truly has never been done before.” CAA Sports would not comment on the package (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/18 issue).
brooklyn heights: In N.Y., Angela Montefinise reported Brooklyn businesses are "getting a big boost from the construction of a new Yankee Stadium." The Yankees said that 31 of the 96 construction contracts issued for the project "have gone to local businesses," totaling $121M. Brooklyn-based MDG Builders Owner Paul Moore, who received a multimillion-dollar contract to put up fencing, said, "This has taken my business to a whole other level" (N.Y. POST, 2/17).
