Old Spice, Bud Light Launch Ad Campaigns Around "Semi-Pro"

Ferrell Appearing In
"Semi-Pro" Ads For Old Spice
Actor Will Ferrell is appearing in ads for Old Spice and Bud Light as part of promo deals around the February 29 theatrical release of “Semi-Pro,” a “rare feat for film tie-in partners,” according to Gail Schiller of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Old Spice today will begin running a series of commercials on nets “with predominantly male audiences, such as ESPN, Comedy Central and MTV,” as well as “male-oriented Web sites.” OldSpice.com will have both the spots and exclusive outtakes. Old Spice Brand Manager James Moorhead said, “There’s a great synergy between ‘Semi-Pro’ and the launch of Old Spice’s new Pro-Strength anti-perspirant.” Schiller reports the film is just the second movie promo for the brand, but it is “on a much larger scale than its first,” the ’06 comedy “Talladega Nights,” which also starred Ferrell. The actor asked that Old Spice “donate his fee for appearing in the spots to the Cancer for College charity, which awards college scholarships to patients.” Bud Light debuted its campaign around Ferrell and the movie during Fox’ broadcast of Super Bowl XLII last Sunday (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 2/11).
