History Lesson: 76ers May Play Game In Wachovia Spectrum
Comcast-Spectacor is "working on the details of moving" the March 22 Nets-76ers game from the Wachovia Center to the Wachovia Spectrum to "create some excitement and renewed interest" in the team, according to Phil Jasner of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. The move is "apparently not tied to the possible demolition of the older arena to clear the way for Philly Live," the new sports and entertainment venue Comcast-Spectacor plans to build with Maryland-based Cordish Co. Part of the promotion would involve bringing back players, coaches and personalities who were "prominent back in the day." 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks, who was point guard of the 76ers team that won the '83 NBA championship in the Spectrum, said, "It's probably good to go back, not to stay back there, but to venture back there for a moment, and then get out of it." The NBA would have to approve the scheduling of any games at the Spectrum (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 2/6).
