Bobcats Nearing Arena Naming-Rights
Deal With Time Warner Cable |
Bobcats execs are "close to a deal'' that will give Time Warner Cable (TWC) naming rights to the team's arena, according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Terms of the naming-rights deal, which would rename the $265M facility, were not available, but it is "expected the deal would involve a long-term contract, likely 10 to 20 years." Meanwhile, talks are being held to move Bobcats broadcasts from TWC's News 14 channel to FSN South. Sources said that "some games could air on FSN South later this season.'' TWC VP/Public Affairs Sue Breckenridge said, "We're close to finalizing a deal.'' She added that talks are "aimed at keeping the Bobcats' games available to [TWC] customers" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/4). Sources said that "one holdup" to the TV rights deal is that TWC "wants to make sure FSN South does not raise its license fee once it secures the Bobcats rights." The deal would free the Bobcats from "what NBA insiders call one of the worst local TV deals in the league" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/4 issue).
NEW SITE: The Bobcats yesterday re-launched a newly-enhanced Bobcats.com, which will provide team information through print, audio and video feeds. New Jersey-based True9 worked with the Bobcats and NBA Digital Services to develop the site (Bobcats).
