Sprint CMO Tim Kelly, who launched the "Sprint Ahead" campaign last year, has been released from the struggling company after just eight months in that position. John Garcia, Senior VP/Product Development & Marketing, will serve as acting CMO until a replacement is named. The move is part of an overall assessment of the company by new CEO Dan Hesse, who said last week that 4,000 layoffs were coming after another poor quarterly earnings report that showed a loss of 683,000 postpaid subscribers. Dean Kessel, Sprint's Dir of NASCAR marketing, said earlier this week that the company’s title sponsorship of NASCAR’s Cup series has yielded positive results and that the company stands firmly behind it. "This program works," Kessel said. "It works for us from a business standpoint, it works across key platforms. Our customers who have said 'I’m a NASCAR fan' churn less, use more data, and their acquisition numbers are better. The business case remains solid for us staying in this sport and that's why we’re not going anywhere."
