Sticky Situation: Wrigley Wondering Why Cubs Called Out Family

Wrigley Exec Chair William Wrigley Jr. has called Cubs Chair Crane Kenney “wondering why his family was bushwhacked” by recent comments Kenney made at the team’s Cubs Convention, according to sources cited by Michael Sneed of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Sources said that Kenney returned the call, but the two “have yet to connect because of out-of-town business.” Last weekend, Kenney answered a fan’s question about renaming Wrigley Field by saying, “Nobody wants to see the name change. And in my perfect world, the Wrigley Company would step up and start paying for what they’ve been getting free all these years” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 1/25).

Cubs Hope To Raise $1M From
Auction Of Bullpen Box Seats
START THE BIDDING: In Chicago, Dave van Dyck reports the Cubs could generate around $1M from auctioning off the 70 bullpen box seats at Wrigley Field this season. The team’s plan “would involve a corporate sponsor,” which could bring in even more money. The team said details will be announced before the season (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/25). Meanwhile, also in Chicago, Andrew Herrmann reports the White Sox Thursday began auctioning 40 lower box seats for 46 games, with some tickets to the team’s games against the Cubs going for more than $250. White Sox VP & CMO Brooks Boyer said that online bidding for the seats “started at [$10-15] over face value, depending on the opponent and day of the week” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 1/25).
