Sports Industry Contributions To Political Candidates
The following is a sampling of contributions to presidential campaigns by various league and team executives. Figures, from the FEC, represent the year-to-date contributions through the third quarter of '07. Individual contributions are limited to $4,600 ($2,300 for the primary and $2,300 for the general election) per candidate. Candidates who have already dropped out of the race, such as Chris Dodd and Joseph Biden, are not shown, and neither are candidates who had failed to gain significant contributions by the end of the filing period. This includes Republican candidates Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson and Ron Paul, who likely picked up significant contributions in the final quarter of the year as their public profile increased (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/14 issue).
