Marketplace Round-Up

In Boston, Scott Van Voorhis reports Fenway Sports Group is offering travel packages to Japan for the Red Sox season-opening games against the A’s at the Tokyo Dome on March 25 and 26. Plans are in the works to charter a flight to Japan to a group of fans who would pay $4,000-6,000. The package would include airfare, lodging and tickets to both games, and there are “likely to be other perks as well” (BOSTON HERALD, 1/8).

STAR-CROSSED: 3M will donate the full paint scheme of the No. 16 Roush Fenway Ford driven by Greg Biffle to the American Red Cross for two races during the ’08 NASCAR Sprint Cup season -- at Talladega Superspeedway on April 27 and at Phoenix Int’l Raceway on November 9. 3M will also donate space on the rear side panel of the car to the Red Cross for placement of its logo during eight other races. Biffle will appear in TV and radio PSAs to support the organization (THE DAILY).

FIGHT THE POWER: The January 7 issue of TV Week includes a cover-wrap ad featuring MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko, who recently signed a contract with HDNet Fights after leaving UFC. The ad contains the text, “Look Out UFC! There’s A New Home For Mixed Martial Arts. Only HDNet delivered the #1 fighter in the world … and that’s just the beginning” (THE DAILY).
