From The Trades: YES Network Adding More HD Programming

BROADCASTING & CABLE’s Glen Dickson reports that YES Network has a new 2,500 square-foot high-definition production control room at its Stamford, Connecticut, HQs.  The net has also installed new HD cameras in its studios and “increased its high-definition editing and replay capabilities,” allowing it to produce studio shows, including live pre- and post-game shows for the Yankees and Nets, in “true 1080-line interface (1080i) HD.” The net has moved “most of its editing and graphics facilities" from N.Y. to its 30,000-square-foot Stamford facility (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 1/7 issue).

MICRO MACHINES: Microsoft revealed at the Int’l Consumer Electronics Show that its Mediaroom IPTV service, through partnerships with Showtime and Turner, respectively, will soon offer new TV applications including “NASCAR on TNT,” which allows for "choice among several different in-car cameras," and "Showtime Interactive Boxing," which offers “various live audio feeds” (CABLEFAX DAILY, 1/8).

AIR MOBILE: AD AGE’s Alice Cuneo reports ESPN has confirmed that there was a three-day period “when its mobile NFL Content outdrew its PC NFL content.” During one 24-hour period, ESPN’s wireless NFL section had 4.9 million visits compared to 4.5 million for its PC NFL section. Mobile-measurement firm M:Metrics Senior Analyst Mark Donovan said, “Increasingly, we see people using the mobile phone because it’s convenient.” Donovan said that sports content “has the potential to be a mobile-web bellwether, if not one of the killer applications, along with search and weather” (AD AGE, 1/7 issue).
