NFL Notes: NFL Sends Cease-And-Desist Notice To Theaters

BRANDWEEK's Barry Janoff reports several marketers are offering consumers a chance to win Super Bowl tickets. Upper Deck will give two tickets to the winner of its "NFL Dance Challenge," with details available at Upperdeck.com. Salesgenie.com is offering the chance to win tickets it was given by Fox for advertising during the game. Arizona Technology Council is offering 500 tickets at $100 each "via a lottery at its Web site," Aztechcouncil.org (BRANDWEEK, 1/7 issue).

Wild Sales Obtains NFL License
For "Tailgate Toss" Game
SCREEN RIGHT: In Milwaukee, Don Walker reported the NFL has sent cease-and-desist letters to at least three theaters in Wisconsin, "telling them they were violating copyright law by showing Packers games on the big screen.” None of the theaters wanted to charge to watch the Packers playoff games. NFL VP/Corporate Communications Brian McCarthy said, “We let them know they are violating copyright law and longstanding NFL policies that prohibit mass out-of-town viewing of NFL games” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/6).

IN THE BAG: Indianapolis-based Wild Sales, a licensed tailgating and outdoor games company, has obtained the NFL license to promote its version of the beanbag-toss game commonly known as “cornhole.” Wild Sales’ "Tailgate Toss" will be available in versions for each of the league’s 32 teams and will retail for about $99. Wild is also a licensee for MLB, Notre Dame, Ohio State and the Univ. Of Texas (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 1/7).
