Delaney To Detail Time As
Undercover Cop In New Book
DON YAEGER, who was scheduled to collaborate with former MLBer JOSE CANSECO on Canseco’s new book, “VINDICATED,” will no longer work on the project. Yaeger: “I had a chance to review the Jose Canseco (material) that he provided me. I don’t think there’s a book there.” Canseco’s attorney ROBERT SAUNOOKE said plans to publish the book “are still going forward” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/5)….NBA referee BOB DELANEY, a former New Jersey state trooper, will release on February 4 an autobiography titled “COVERT: MY YEARS INFILTRATING THE MOB,” co-written by the St. Petersburg Times’ DAVE SCHEIBER. The book details Delaney's time working undercover with “New Jersey Mafia types,” and SI.com’s Jack McCallum wrote Delaney “tells his tale lucidly and, best of all, understatedly” (SI.com, 1/4).

ATLANTA SPIRIT: Atlanta Sports Council and College Football HOF officials reported that there has been “no substantive proposals or negotiations” to move the HOF to Atlanta. National Football Foundation and College Football HOF President & CEO STEVE HATCHELL said the museum “currently has no plans to move" from South Bend, Indiana (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 1/6)….Clemson and Alabama will play at the Georgia Dome on August 30 to open the '08 college football season.  The game will be played at 8:00pm ET and air on either ABC or ESPN (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 1/5).

NAMES: Red Sox GM THEO EPSTEIN and ESPN’s PETER GAMMONS this weekend co-hosted a charity event during the Hot Stove, Cool Music fundraiser, and Epstein and Gammons played a song together onstage during the event. The gala included a live auction; attending a Red Sox game with Epstein went for more than $15,000 and having Red Sox P CURT SCHILLING coach a youth baseball game pulled in about $12,000 (BOSTON HERALD, 1/7)....In Boston, Nick Cafardo reported a hunting show for MLB HOFer WADE BOGGS is “in the works.” Meanwhile, D’Backs Assistant GM PETER WOODFORK was married Friday in Maui, with Red Sox VP/Int’l Scouting CRAIG SHIPLEY and VP/Player Personnel BEN CHERINGTON in attendance (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/6)....Actor TOM CRUISE attended Saturday’s Redskins-Seahawks NFC Wild Card game in Redskins Owner DAN SNYDER’s luxury box. Snyder is a financier of Cruise’s production company. NBC showed Cruise during the third quarter of its broadcast (NBC, 1/5).
