Vintage jerseys marking the Steelers’ 75th anniversary and the upcoming Penguins-Sabres January 1 Amp Energy Winter Classic are two of the “hardest to find” apparel items for fans, according to Kevin Kirkland of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. The “cool retro blue” Penguins sweaters are expected to arrive at Mellon Arena next week, with many already pre-sold. Mellon Arena retail manager Karen Ford said that Sidney Crosby’s jersey “is No. 1, but there are a lot of close seconds -- Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fleury, Georges Laraque -- everybody has their favorite.” The jerseys are available at NHL.com’s Penguins shop, “but a wait of three to five weeks means [consumers] probably won’t get them by Christmas.” Ford said that Dick’s Sporting Goods “is the only other retailer who might be getting the special jerseys.” Dick’s and Dunham’s Sporting Goods both show the jerseys on their respective Web sites, www.dickssportinggoods.com and www.dunhams.com. Dick’s “did not confirm they would be in stores.” Meanwhile, the only retailers that have the Steelers 75th anniversary throwbacks in stock are Dick’s and Sidelines, the team's official store, accessible at news.steelers.com/catalog/ (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 12/12).
